This is a good question to think about when purchasing new granite or natural stone countertops.  After all, it’s a major purchase and who wants to pay too much for something? The confusing part for consumers regarding natural stone is that the price can vary quite a bit depending on many factors. The quality and type of the material, the fabrication options that are selected, the quality of the service, and the experience level of the fabricators and installers are all factors affecting the end price. Here are some important things to consider when purchasing stone countertops that will help you determine if you are getting a good value from your provider.

Quality of material

Stone and granite slabs (the large pieces of stone from which countertops are fabricated) are sold by international stone traders and come in 3 grades: commercial, mid level, and premium. You may hear different names to describe the different grades, but these are the commonly known categories. When purchasing countertops, you want to aim for premium grade. The best fabricators will guide you towards higher quality materials. Lower quality materials might have cracks and fissures that only professionals may be able to detect. A consumer may not be aware of the problem until a later date when their countertop cracks or starts to separate. Many bargain granite shops that are popping up lately often sell the lower quality grade materials. They may seem like a bargain because of the lower initial cost but they are not a good value if you end up with future problems. Also, be careful with some retailers and contractors who want to improve their margins at all costs. They too will purchase from the lowest cost stone provider to increase their own margins regardless of quality.

Type of material

This is a very broad topic, but here are a few general guidelines to follow. Granites that are consistent in color and grain tend to be less expensive and are typically the base (lower) priced stones. Granites with more texture and flowing patterns are usually more expensive. Soapstone, natural quartzite, and marbles are usually more expensive than the base granites as well.

Quality of fabrication

The quality of the fabrication can also affect the price. A professional and experienced company will do more to ensure a high quality product than low cost providers. For example, professional companies will pay more attention to details and do things like polish exposed areas that are not directly visible like under an overhang, reinforce (with rebar) fragile areas, and hand polish edges where appropriate. They will also take the time to layout the flow of the granite that works best in your kitchen. Quality fabrication is a good sign you purchased high quality material that you can rely on over the long term.

Quality of installation

The experience level of the installers is very important to the final look of the product. If stone is not handled properly it can break and damage your property. It is also important that installers know how to deal with the details of the installation. One key thing to consider when looking for a quality company is whether workers are being provided workers compensation insurance. Installing heavy granite can be dangerous. Make sure the installer has proper coverage otherwise the homeowner may be liable (see article – Homeowners could be liable for injuries suffered by uninsured independent contractor’s employee). This is a common practice used by discount granite suppliers to cut costs below their competitors. They often employ workers as sub contractors, often on a cash basis, without providing proper workers compensation coverage, paying employment taxes, or provide any other benefits such as health insurance.

There are many factors to consider when determining a fair price. Look at a company’s reputation and history of good customer service. After all, if they do not call you back or show up for appointments, you are not getting a good value, no matter what you paid. In closing, remember to choose a professional company that you can trust to provide a quality product without cutting corners.

General 2009 pricing guidelines

When you finally make your decision to purchase a stone countertop, you will generally pay the following depending on the area of the country you live:

Solid patterns/Base Granites:  A typical 50 sq. ft. kitchen should run between $3500 and $4000 fabricated and installed with an under mount sink and basic options.  Equates to $64 – $74 per sq. ft. installed.

Middle range stones (popular exotic materials and base marbles): between $4500 and $5300 for a typical 50 sq. ft kitchen fully installed with a standard under mount sink and basic options. Equates to $85 – $100 per sq. ft. installed.

Higher range stones (exotic materials, natural quartz, less available marbles): between $5500 and $6300 for a typical 50 sq. ft. kitchen fully installed with a standard under mount sink and basic options. Equates to $105 – $120 per sq. ft. installed.

More expensive stones are available on the market, but generally a standard 50 square foot kitchen can be fully installed within these price ranges. Upgraded edge options can affect pricing as well. Upgraded edge options in a typical 50 square foot kitchen will range anywhere from $400 to $1800 dollars depending on the selected options and necessary work needed to fabricate. Equates to $15 – $75 per linear foot of edge fabricated.

In recent studies, home ownership rates have increased steadily because of the implementation of the FHA home loans. Purchasing homes has been made easier because of this benefit.

Through the years, FHA has assisted Americans to gain their rights in owning the homes that they want. Reasonable mortgage rates for middle class, producing housing for the elderly and those with low income, and financing military housing are only a few examples of what the FHA has done for them.

The whole process begins with the lenders extending the loans to those who normally couldn’t buy a house without their assistance. But of course, these people must meet the FHA requirements before they are given the loans that they are applying for. One requirement they must meet is that they should have a good credit rating.

If they have a bad credit rating, they might have a hard time getting their application approved. If they do get it approved, it might mean that they would have to pay a higher interest rate compared to those who have good credit score.

Also, FHA loans give benefits to those who wish to buy homes but aren’t able to make down payments because they are fresh college graduates, newlyweds, or people who are still trying to complete their education.

There are also some lenders who allow people with negative credit rating to qualify nonetheless. They know that these people are marred by foreclosure or bankruptcy but they are willing to give them a second chance.

The FHA 203k loan is the most popular FHA home loan. There is a fixed rate and this is the most ideal for first time home buyers. It lets the individuals pay up to 97 percent of their total home loan. This means the down payments are regulated on a manageable level and the closing costs are also at a minimum.

The FHA 203k loan is the only loan wherein the total closing costs can be given as gift from a non-profit or government agency that is related to the cost and benefits of the whole company.

However, the guidelines to remember in this whole transaction when dealing with the FHA 203k loan is that there is a minimum income requirement. The individual must qualify for this before he be granted an FHA 203k loan.

The debt ratios may also be specific, depending on the state he is living in. The FHA 203k loan is a great investment because one can purchase the home he’s been wanting.

PrePaid legal services Inc is a network marketing company that offers certain legal services for a fixed monthly fee to its subscribers. In this article, let’s see the business aspect of this MLM Company and check out the potential to earn as a PrePaid legal associate.

The Service

Why does anyone need legal insurance? The same reason why you’d need health or life insurance! Everyone’s accountable to the law and we can never predict when we may need the services of a lawyer. Legal insurance is a means to minimize your legal expenses. Membership to this service entitles you to the services of a lawyer for matters such as wills and other legal documentation, settlement of legal issues and minor trial work. Issues such as divorce, drugs related cases and major criminal problems are not covered, but members can use the services of a lawyer for such issues at a discounted rate.

A Look At PrePaid legal services

The idea for this venture was born in 1972 when its owner, Harland C Stonecipher got into a legal scuffle and had to cough up huge sums of money. He felt the need for an insurance that would mitigate unexpected legal expenses as well as keep them in touch experts in law to get their queries answered. The business was started as a network marketing company to spread the word through independent associates who could explain details to customers in person. Now, Prepaid legal is established in 50 states and in Canada. In addition to legal insurance, the company also offers a monitoring system to prevent identity theft.

Problems? Is PrePaid legal services A Scam?

After a series of lawsuits against the company, many people started proclaiming this business to be a scam. Is PrePaid Legal a scam? My answer is NO. This company has been around for more than thirty years and is listed in the New York Stock Exchanges. This firm is definitely legitimate. It’s easy for MLM companies to gain a bad reputation because there are so many bogus enterprises that take advantage of network marketing techniques.

Complaints against PrePaid legal services are mostly from ex-distributors who joined hoping to earn six-figure incomes magically. To them, the grapes were sour; they were not able to generate income beyond a level and they put the blame on the pyramid structure.

Why Should You Join PrePaid Legal?

- Legal insurance is relatively new as compared to other kinds of insurance. This should make it easier for you to sell the product. – The compensation structure and bonus schemes are attractive. There’s good prospect to grow in this business. Commissions are given as soon as the order is handed in. – This is a service that will be helpful for everyone. There should be many takers for this service if marketed the right way.

Distributor Problems

This is not the kind of business that could be sold to customers by strictly following procedures of a typical MLM firm. In fact, using techniques such as inviting people to demo parties, tempting them with gifts and offers and persuading them to buy your service would make your business seem more like a scam because most fraudulent dealers use the same modus operandi. Distributors are not likely to generate much income by just following MLM procedures such as cold calling or prospecting just don’t work anymore.

Selling Techniques

This is a business that could generate really good levels of income if marketed properly. Instead of concentrating on people you know, reach out to the world outside by communicating to them about your product. Online marketing would be the best way to do this. With innovative tools such as Facebook and article marketing, you’re sure to divert a lot of attention to your business.

You want to install granite countertops for the kitchens and you are looking at all the slabs. As you look at the different granite slabs, you notice that some of them are more expensive than the others when all them looks the same in color, size and shape. As laymen, it is impossible for us to know about the factors which will determine the price of the granite slab. In fact there are different factors apart from color, size and shape which actually determine the price of the granite slabs. What are these factors? How is the price of a granite slab determined? What makes some granite slabs more expensive than others? Read on as we analyze all these facts.

Granite is found near all the mountain ranges and some of the quarries where the granites are found are located in South America, China and the European mountain ranges. As the workers dig deep inside the quarries, they look for all the possible sources from where they can unearth this natural stone which is in great demand. It is an extremely strenuous process which is also time-consuming. Blasting is not possible, as granite will break into thousands of pieces. This makes it all the more tough to recover this stone. Special cutters are used by the workers to take out the granite from the quarries. Large blocks are cut out, but the blocks are extremely heavy. Once the granite pieces are taken out, they are taken to various factories where they are processed and made fit to be used as items of home décor.

In the factories, the rough blocks are treated and then they transform into the smooth-surfaced granite slab. Although initially it was coarse and rough, now it turns into a smooth texture and it further adds to the look of this piece making it suitable for decorative purposes. The price of the granite combines all the money which has been spent on that granite slab to create a smooth-textured surface. The cost also includes the transportation cost as the processing expenses. The patterns that are found on the granite slabs are also responsible for the expensive granite slabs. Some patterns are rare and this may make the granite slab even costlier.

The color of the stones is one of the major determinants of the price of granite. There are unique colors. However even though there can be a difference in transportation cost, color and pattern of granite, the resilience and durability of the stone is more or less high. If your budget is not that much, you can go for the common forms. Even though the stones are less expensive, they will be durable like all the others. The granite installation process is pretty complex. You can hire a professional installer who will be able to do the job with ease. It is better to choose someone who has all the knowledge and expertise for the job, than to take all the hassles by yourself! Take a good look at the available selection of granite and choose one accordingly!

Have you ever visited a river, brook or stream in which the water just barely “glazed” the stones as it passed over them? This is one of the loveliest patterns created by natural bodies of water, and it can be easily enjoyed indoors when you install stone wall water features.

How is that? If you take a look at a high-quality vendor of stone wall water features, you will notice immediately that the fixtures all present the viewer with something similar to the experience out in the “wild”. The gentle streams of water pour down from the top of the stone and glide across the surface of the smooth or the carved stone. Depending upon the structure of the stone and the way the fountain is designed, the sounds emanating from the wall water features can be very subtle or quite pronounced. Either way, they tend to all work their remarkable effects on those who hear them.

Need an example? Let’s say that your preferred style of décor is minimal with a somewhat Asian emphasis. You have boldly colored walls, simple furniture, and a distinct lack of clutter. The artwork you choose reiterates your theme and can include basic landscapes, abstract images, or natural scenes. This makes your space the ideal place for one of the stone or pebble wall water features that present the visitor or inhabitant with another element of nature and interaction.

One of the most impressive styles of stone fountains to choose are those that are entirely without a frame. Unlike more common fountains that can feature a basin and a header along with light fixtures, the wall fountains that use only the stone slabs and the simple basins can really make a tremendous impact. They usually have the water entering through small holes carved directly into the stone, and this gives them an even more natural look that can really create a totally unique sound and experience apart from other types of fountains.

One thing to remember when a fountain is to be a main feature in the room is the fact that it will need a supply of electricity. This might mean that you will need to have a professional electrician install an outlet in the area immediately behind the unit in order to maintain the very clean and natural appearance of the stone slab hanging against the wall. This may add a small amount to the cost of the project, but is well worth it.
